The Piña Colada is at least 60 years old. (Although some say a Puerto Rican pirate named Roberto Cofresí invented it in 1825 to boost the morale of his crew. Hard to believe? Yes, but you never know!) The New York Times referenced the "Cuban Piña Colada (rum, pineapple and coconut milk)" in a 1950 article that may be the first official mention of the cocktail. Either way, over the years, the Piña Colada has been butchered left and right. Like many exotic drinks that become sensations, they can get watered down with cheap ingredients or have their recipes outright changed.

We wanted to make a Piña Colada that lives up to the original, authentic version that took the world by storm half a century ago. We think you'll love this frozen version of the Piña Colada. This recipe is for 2 servings


  • 3 oz Toasted Coconut Syrup
  • 2 oz Plantation Pineapple Rum (dark rum)
  • 2 oz Rhum Clement (rhum agricole)
  • 2 ½ oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (to boost the flavor in a frozen drink)
  • 2 cups of ice
