Just a Cigar
Taking 6th place in the 2026 Liber Games, this Caribbean-inspired cocktail created by David Ede Jr. is both delicious and visually representative. The syrups and rum provide a velvety weight and a gentle spiciness that anchors the snap of fresh lime. Visually, the drink is a literal representation of smoke with the egg froth, dusted nutmeg as ash and a cinnamon stick as a cigar. It is a sophisticated, layered experience that proves—as Freud may have once said—sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Ingredients:
- ½ oz Demerara Gum Syrup
- ¼ oz Fiery Ginger Syrup
- 1 oz demerara rum
- 1 oz mezcal
- ¾ oz fresh lime juice
- egg white
- 2 dashes angostura bitters
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients to shaker
- Add ice and shake for 10-15 seconds
- Double strain in a chilled glass
